Zipper Screen in Puerto Vallarta
A vertical awning with the fabric locked into side channels: it stays put in the wind, leaves no gaps at the sides and closes off terraces, pergolas and large windows from the sun. Motorized or manual, made to fit your space.
Vertical awning with side channels
Close off your terrace without the wind taking the fabric
On a regular vertical awning the fabric hangs loose, so the wind makes it flap, billow or pull out of place. On a Zipper Screen both edges of the fabric carry a zipper that runs inside aluminum channels: the fabric comes down taut, with no gaps, and stays where it belongs.
We install it on terraces, pergolas, balconies, large windows, outdoor corridors and restaurants in Puerto Vallarta and Bahía de Banderas. There are motorized versions with remote control and manual versions, with screen fabric to see outside or blackout fabric to darken.
Versions
Five versions, by size and use

Heavy Duty
The large-format version: covers up to 6.00 × 4.50 m with motor and remote control. For large pergolas, restaurants and hotel terraces.

Basic
Motorized for standard sizes, up to 4.00 × 3.20 m. The most common choice for home terraces, balconies and large windows.

Project
Motorized, with the most compact cassette (90 × 100 mm), up to 3.20 × 2.80 m. Designed for developments with many identical windows.

Manual
Raised and lowered with a crank, no wiring needed. Reaches up to 6.00 × 3.20 m wide by high.

Spring System
Spring-assisted manual: the fabric rolls up on its own with little effort. Up to 4.50 × 3.20 m.
Sizes are width × height. The minimum size is 0.70 × 1.00 m on almost every version (Spring System: 1.00 × 1.00 m).
Where it is used
Hotels, homes, corridors and pergolas

Hotels
Darkens guest rooms and closes off room or restaurant terraces with a single motorized piece, consistent across the whole building.

Homes
Shields large windows and poolside lounges from the afternoon sun without losing the view.

Corridors and walkways
Turns an open corridor into a shaded space sheltered from the wind.

Pergolas
Closes the sides of a pergola or retractable roof so you can use the terrace all year round.
Why a Zipper Screen
Sturdier than a regular vertical awning
Stands up to wind
The edge of the fabric carries a zipper that runs inside the side channels and does not pull out of them. The manufacturer rates every version at wind resistance level 10.
Controls the sun
Blocks UV rays, cuts glare and protects your terrace furniture. The space stays cooler than in direct sun.
No gaps at the sides
Because the fabric is taut and held in the guides, there are no gaps for dust, leaves or insects to get through when the awning is closed.
See out or black out
With screen fabric you still see the view during the day. With blackout fabric the space goes dark, for example in a hotel room.
Outdoor-grade aluminum
Cassette and guides in aluminum alloy with electrostatic powder coating, in white or dark gray. Built for sun, salt air and rain.
A clean look
The cassette and guides stay discreet and the fabric hangs straight, with no sagging or wrinkles. It suits the contemporary architecture of the bay.
Technical fabrics in polyester or PVC with fiberglass, blocking 99.9% to 100% of UV depending on the fabric.

Frequently asked questions
What people ask us most
How is it different from a regular vertical drop awning?
On a regular vertical awning the fabric drops loose or on guide cables and moves with the wind. On a Zipper Screen the fabric edges carry a zipper that runs inside aluminum channels, so the fabric stays taut, with no side gaps, and does not pull out in the wind.
Can it handle the wind on the bay?
Every version is rated wind resistance level 10 by the manufacturer, far more than a conventional awning. Even so, it should be rolled up before a tropical storm or hurricane: it does not replace a hurricane shutter.
What is the largest size it can cover?
The Heavy Duty reaches 6.00 m wide by 4.50 m high. Larger openings are covered with several Zipper Screens side by side.
Can you see outside with the awning closed?
Yes, with screen fabric: during the day you can see outside while the fabric filters the sun. If you want full darkness, blackout fabric is used.
Is there a version without a motor?
Yes. The Manual works with a crank and the Spring System with a spring, with no need to run power to the awning. Heavy Duty, Basic and Project come with a motor and remote control.
